March 2004
was Water Awareness Month
in the Verde Valley
 
The League of Women Voters of Sedona-Verde Valley and other organizations planned many special programs and activities in honor of our most precious resource. The whole community celebrated many activities during the month.

February 25 - There was a special newspaper section with articles and information about water’s importance to the Verde Valley & its wise management and conservation. 

March 4-7 - The community celebrated the Sedona Film Festival with water-theme documentary films. 

March 13 - League members posed as Blarney the Bass and “the Water Wave” in Sedona’s St. Patrick’s Parade. 

March 13 - Sustainable Arizona presented: “Sedona Water Workshop – Creating Proposals for City Water Conservation Programs and Ordinances.”

March 14 - The First Annual Verde River Run was held. Completely successful, the 10K and 2K Fun Run, sponsored by Weber’s IGA, Prime Outlets in Sedona & others. 9 a.m., VOC. Register at IGA, Prime Outlets or www.arizonaroadracers.com.

March 20 - “Water Forum: Year 2034-- Contrasting Scenarios: Status Quo vs Sound Management of Our Water Resources in the Verde Watershed,” cosponsored by Bureau of Reclamation and Sedona Area Citizens. The event was held at the Cliff Castle Lodge and Conference Center.    

 March 27 - Keep Sedona Beautiful Native Plant/Xeriscaping Workshop was held.

March 27 - Project WET curriculum workshop was held for Verde Valley teachers, K - 12.

 March 27 - A Water Awareness Festival was sponsored by the Institute of Ecotourism with educational exhibits, family entertainment, special concerts by Cynthia Strom and Tom & Shondra. The event was held Creekside at Los Abrigados.

 All month  

The League of Women Voters featured Art about Water, by Sedona Visual Artists Coalition. Exhibitions were placed in the Public Libraries of Sedona, Camp Verde and Cottonwood.

- Water Awareness Posters, Jerome-Clarkdale Public Schools. Display on Main between 9th and 10th, Clarkdale.
